Man Finds His Own Stolen Car

A man in Volusia County had his car stolen when he set his keys down on the customer service desk at Publix and forgot about them for a few minutes. By then, a thief had grabbed them, jumped in the car, and had taken off in Holly Hill. Two days later, Larry Burgess was driving around when he saw his car… which still had his license plate on it. Burgess says he was driving along US-1 when he glanced at a thrift store, and that’s when he noticed his car parked outside the building. Nobody was in it, so he blocked it in by parking his other car close to the rear bumper, then called 911 to report it. When the thief… who was easily identified by surveillance video taken at Publix where the car had been stolen… came out and was confronted by Burgess… he fled. Police identified the thief as 27 year old Anthony Romine, who as it turns out, had previously been arrested for theft and drug offenses in Volusia County. Romine was taken into custody and charged with grand theft. He was locked up in the Volusia County Jail, but later posted a $15,000 bond and was released.
