Special Session To Address Insurance Issues

State lawmakers are meeting for another special session today, to try to come up with a plan to help homeowners who are paying… in some instances… as much as three times more than the national average to insure their homes. One big problem is the fact that there are now far fewer options for getting insurance coverage, because 6 insurance companies have stopped operating in the state so far this year alone. And if you think that’s due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, think again. Much of the blame is being placed on roof replacement frauds, litigation and reinsurance… which is another term for insurance for insurance companies. Lawmakers in Tallahassee today, will be considering plans that would cut down on litigation costs among other things. But they need to work fast. They only have until midnight Friday to pass the legislation.
