County To Pull Legal Notices From Newspaper / Will Save Thousands By Posting Them On County Website

Newspapers across the country have been fighting a move that would allow legal notices to be published online instead of in print… mainly because legal notices provide a pretty steady revenue stream for newspapers amid an overall decline in spending on print media advertising. Now, Brevard County is joining the move, and county officials are making preparations to stop posting some legal notices in Florida Today. Instead, they will simply use the county website. County leaders say the change will most likely come by the end of this month for some types of legal notices, and they say it will save money. It all comes about after a bill, sponsored by State Representative Randy Fine of Melbourne Beach, was passed in the Florida Legislature. It said county and local government entities could — but didn’t have to — publish their own legal notices on a county website.
