More plans have been announced by groups to sue the US government unless more manatees are saved. The nonprofit Center for Biological Diversity, Harvard Animal Law & Policy Clinic, Miami Waterkeeper and Frank S. González Garcia, an engineer in Puerto Rico… all sent a notice of their intent to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for failing to protect manatees under the Endangered Species Act. They say starvation has claimed around 2,000 manatees in the past two years, and many of those manatee deaths have been in Brevard County. The latest suits ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to reclassify the species from threatened to endangered.
