Attorney General Takes Stance On Recreational Marijuana

Florida’s Attorney General Ashley Moody has filed a brief with the Florida Supreme Court, laying out the reason that she believes a proposed measure to legalize recreational marijuana here in the Sunshine State should not be placed on the ballot. Medical marijuana was approved in 2016 for medicinal purposes in Florida, and last year it generated more than $100 million in taxes and licensing fees. Medical marijuana is expected to add $2 billion to the state’s economy this year. But Moody says the adult personal use of marijuana ballot summary is misleading, and suggests that cannabis would be “legal.” It is not legal under federal law.
