Wild Chase Ends With Arrest Of Bicyclist

Sebastian Police nabbed a man for running away and resisting arrest, but only after a chase that started near the Wells Fargo Bank building and ended at the Sebastian Walmart. It all began during a regular patrol, when police spotted a bicycle without any lights on, riding in the wrong direction on U.S. Highway 1. But the bicyclist, 35 year old Steven Mackowski of Vero Beach, took off. The more the officer tried to stop him, the more Mackowski yelled at him and kept pedaling. More patrol cars were called in, and they activated their sirens and flashing lights to get Mackowski to stop. Mackowski managed to dodge all of them, leading to a chase around the Walmart parking lot until he was finally taken into custody. Mackowski was taken to the Indian River County Jail, and was held on a $1,000 bond.
