Right now, across Florida all eyes are on the so-called “cone of uncertainty” and the National Hurricane Center reminds you that is exactly what it is. The cone can shift to the east or west, it can shrink, and it can grow. They say while it’s an important tool used to forecast the probable path of a storm, it isn’t perfect, and often storms change course suddenly… leaving many people who were thinking they were out of danger suddenly unprepared. That’s because a lot of people simply stop preparing for dangerous conditions when they see they’re out of the cone. With now Hurricane Idalia, the forecasts, models, and paths indicate a very intense storm that could very well extend well outside of the cone. The Space Coast is now under a Tropical Storm Warning. We can expect our worst weather conditions from Idalia tomorrow from about 6am to around 3pm, when sustained winds are forecast to be somewhere between 25 and 35 miles per hour, with gusts at times between 35 and 45 miles per hour. We can expect around 1 to 3 inches of rain before it’s all over. But all of that can change quickly, so keep listening for updates.
