Both Brevard Public Schools and Eastern Florida State College have canceled classes today ahead of the expected effects of Hurricane Idalia. Brevard Catholic schools also announced that they would be closing today on Tuesday. That comes as Brevard County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning. Forecasters say winds this morning could reach more than 35 miles per hour sustained, with gusts a bit higher. School officials made the decision to close because that would mean the winds would potentially be dangerous for school buses.
