According to data from the Florida Department of Transportation, Brevard County is one of the 25 most dangerous counties in the state for pedestrian and bicycle fatalities. Now, one organization is taking steps to make a change. Best Foot Forward is one of the largest grassroots coalitions nationwide dedicated to lowering pedestrian fatalities and injuries. They made their local launch official on Tuesday night, with a resolution of support being issued by the Brevard County Commissioners. Their aim is increase education and have more high visibility enforcement with hopes of changing both driver and pedestrian behavior. Last year there were 22 fatalities in Brevard County involving cyclists and pedestrians. Two intersections and one part of Wickham Road in Melbourne have been identified as highly dangerous locations.
