Beware The Migrating Manatees Right Now

As the warm spring sun shines down on Florida, boaters are reminded to keep an eye out for manatees. The gentle giants are transitioning from winter havens to open waters, and they need protection during this critical time. With manatees quite common in the Indian River Lagoon, vigilance is key. Boaters can reduce collision risks by wearing polarized sunglasses and adhering to manatee protection zone rules and speed limits. From April 1 through November 15, seasonal manatee zones enforce those speed limits to prevent boat strikes. Remember, manatees are protected species, and any harassment is illegal.
