The Space Coast has made a rather dubious list. Florida’s lightning hotspots have been listed, and while the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area takes the top spot for the most lightning-prone area in the US, other regions of our state also saw a lot of deadly lightning strikes. Those other areas include Palm Bay; Melbourne; Cape Coral; Orlando; and Jacksonville rounding out the top of the list. The experts say to remember… lightning strikes reach out up to 10 miles from a storm, so it’s crucial to prioritize safety during storms. Remember the old adage… when thunder roars, go indoors.
