Local Eclipse Timing And Coverage

After a lot of hoopla, it’s finally here… today! The solar eclipse will leave a wide swath of the United States in a total blackout for a few minutes today, but here in Florida we will only see a little dimming of the sun. If we want to see the real thing, we have to wait a while. A partial solar eclipse will be over North America again in January 2029 and the next total solar eclipse will be in August 2045. Today, the start of the eclipse should be at around 1:46pm and it peaks at 3:03pm and ends at 4:17pm. Locally here on the Space Coast… in Melbourne for instance… the eclipse will begin at 1:48pm today, it will peak at 3:04pm, and it will be all over by 4:17pm. We can expect about 54.7% darkness.
