‘Rocket Play’ Causes 40-Acre Fire In Palm Bay

In Palm Bay, fire crews tackled a 40-acre brush fire in the city’s “Compound” area on Saturday. Palm Bay Fire Rescue confirmed the fire was accidental, caused by an explosion during testing by rocket enthusiasts. Initially reported as 25 acres, the fire grew to 40 acres before being contained. The incident was attributed to UCF students conducting an unsanctioned static motor test after being declined assistance by the Spaceport Rocketry Association, which says what the students were doing was an unsanctioned event. No injuries or structural damage occurred.
