First Tropical Storm Of The Season Is Churning Offshore

In the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center has identified the first tropical disturbance of the season. Located about 900 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, this area of low pressure has been generating showers and thunderstorms since Wednesday. Although the system is forecast to move southwestward, further development is not anticipated. Forecasters now are emphasizing the importance of readiness as warmer waters suggest a potentially active hurricane season ahead.
