Cruise Ship Air Rescue From Patrick Space Force Station

A dramatic rescue unfolded as a mother and child were airlifted from a Carnival Cruise Line ship by crews from Patrick Space Force Station. Two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters, two HC-130J Combat King 11 aircraft, and rescue teams flew 350 nautical miles off the U.S. eastern coast to reach the ship which had set sail on April 26 from Port Canaveral for a 10-day cruise to the Bahamas. The pair was successfully transferred to a hospital back here in the United States after an eight-hour mission involving three air-to-air refuelings. The nature of their medical emergency remains unclear.
