They’ve been a growing threat in south Florida… particularly in the Everglades. Now, it appears that the big snakes are moving north. Last Sunday, a 12-foot Burmese python was trapped and killed by alligator hunters in southern Brevard County this week. The snake was handed over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, which is now trying to figure out how the invasive snake made its way up to Brevard County. While the big snakes remain rare around here, there is growing concern about pythons locally, because as they have already proven in the Everglades, their presence could adversely affect the ecosystem.
