Brevard Burn Ban Effective Today
A burn ban takes effect today in Brevard County after a brush fire in Palm Bay sent smoke over I-95. The fire broke out near St. Johns Heritage Parkway and Davis Lane. Meanwhile, drought conditions are worsening across all of Central Florida.

SpaceX launched another mission from Cape Canaveral last night. The Falcon 9 lifted off at 8:48 p.m. and landed back at Landing Zone 2, setting off a sonic boom. It was the second launch of the day yesterday from here on the Space Coast.

Orlando Health shut down what they say is the deteriorating Rockledge Hospital today after 84 years in Brevard. The facility, formerly known as Wuesthoff Hospital, was founded in 1941. Emergency services have been rerouted. A new hospital is planned but won’t open for several years.

Workers are clearing out more than 500 tires that were dumped decades ago in the Indian River Lagoon near Cocoa Beach. The tires, originally used to stop erosion, are now killing mangroves and polluting the water. So far, over 300 have been pulled, with hundreds more to go… hopefully by mid-May.
