A proposal by the Florida Department of Transportation calling for the reduction of US-1 in Palm Shores from 6 lanes to 4 lanes, now pits the Brevard County Commission against the Palm Shores Town Council, which passed a resolution back in October supporting the proposal as a way to reduce speeds and accidents. On December 20th though, the County Commission passed its own resolution… opposing the idea… saying it would cause more traffic congestion. The plan by the state would reduce the 2.25-mile stretch of U.S. 1 from the Pineda Causeway south to Post Road from three lanes in each direction to two lanes in each direction. It would also reduce the speed limit.
