As prices of just about everything continue to spiral up, the cost of producing the electricity that we use every day is also on the rise, and that has led to requests by the two major power companies here in Central Florida, to increase rates. Florida Power and Light and Duke Energy each say they need more money to help offset the cost the millions of dollars they spent restoring power and repairing infrastructure after hurricanes Ian and Nicole, along with the higher cost of natural gas. Florida Power and Light wants an increase of approximately 10%. Duke Energy wants more. They’re asking for a 20% increase. It’s not final though. The final decision will be made by the Florida Public Service Commission.
