A section of a road in Brevard County may be renamed in honor of a deputy sheriff who was killed in the line of duty ten years ago. If State Rep. Tyler Sirois of Merritt Island gets his way, an amendment to a House Bill would designate a portion of State Road 518 as the “Deputy Sheriff Barbara Ann Pill Memorial Highway.” The Brevard County Commissioners are behind the effort too, and last week they sent a letter of support for the name change. Deputy Barbara Pill was killed on March 6, 2012, when she pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of John Rodes Boulevard and Elena Way. When she asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, he did… and then he opened fire, hitting Pill several times…. killing her.
