The Florida Department of Health lifted an advisory on Wednesday, that had been implemented last Friday afternoon for high bacteria around the Cocoa Beach Pier. Health officials say samples drawn this week are now within acceptable levels. The precautionary swim advisories posted last week came after water samples taken near the pier showed fecal bacteria in the water. That type of bacteria can come from animals or humans, and they say the levels can spike after rain washes bacteria from bird droppings off the pier.
