While Brevard County was spared this time around, Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend area Wednesday morning as a very powerful Category 3 hurricane. The storm then raced across the peninsula and into Georgia, and it has since been downgraded to a tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center says Idalia came ashore near Keaton Beach yesterday around 7:45am with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph…. that after it was for a time, a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 130 mph. As the cleanup begins for the areas of Florida that suffered a direct hit, the good news is that for now anyway… as we approach the high point of the hurricane season… there is nothing else out there that is even remotely threatening for the foreseeable future.
