With the high number of travelers expected to be on the roads this week, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Highway Patrol are stepping up actions to see that drivers avoid distractions. Troopers say distracted driving can be especially dangerous with the increased traffic. They define distracted driving as anything that takes your hands off the wheel, your eyes off the road, or your mind off driving. Set your GPS or traffic app before hitting the road. Put down any electronics while the car is in motion. Better yet, police suggest that you activate your phone’s “Do Not Disturb” feature, or put your cell phone in your vehicle’s trunk, glove box, or back seat until you arrive at your destination.
