A project is underway here in Brevard County to repair erosion caused by Hurricane Ian and Tropical Storm Nicole. The $47.6 million sand-pumping and placement project will mean restoration of beaches and sand dunes along an 11.5 mile stretch of oceanfront. It will take an estimated 16-months to complete, and the project is fully funded by federal emergency appropriations. The timetable is weather-dependent, and there will be a pause during sea turtle nesting season. Some temporary beach closures will be necessary, and the whole thing should be wrapped up sometime between this coming November and April 2025.
