A registered sex offender, notorious for impersonating law enforcement, has been re-arrested. 44 year old Jeremy Dewitte was taken into custody in Osceola County. Dewitte first made headlines in 2019 when he posed as an officer while directing traffic for a funeral procession. That’s when, during a confrontation with a real deputy, he reached for his gun. After that, he was arrested again in 2021 and 2022 after similar incidents. His criminal history dates back to 2005, when he was convicted of sexual battery on a minor. Due to that conviction, he is prohibited from carrying concealed weapons. Thursday’s arrest of Dewitte means he now faces a charge of failing to report a change in vehicle ownership under the state’s sex offender statutes. He is being held on no bond.
