A 42-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Melbourne is dead following a police chase into Georgia. Michael Smith was being sought by Melbourne authorities for the Sunday night shooting death of Westly Lopes in the parking lot next to Mugs Pub on Sarno Road. On Tuesday morning, Smith led officers on a high-speed chase on Interstate 95 that ended near Jekyll Island, Georgia. After the stolen truck he was driving was struck by a police car, Smith died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The whole thing… including the shooting in Melbourne… remains under investigation.
