‘Florida Bass’ Officially Recognized

A freshwater fish that most of us know as the largemouth bass here in Florida has officially been reclassified as the Florida bass by the American Fisheries Society. The change comes about after genetic studies confirmed it as a separate species from the largemouth bass despite their visual similarity. The research, conducted at Yale University, revealed that Florida bass have a broader habitat range than previously thought, encompassing regions beyond Florida to parts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
