In Central Florida, two schools are adopting an extended academic year. One of them is an elementary school in Ocala and the other is right here in Brevard County… Challenger 7 Elementary in Cocoa. Both are starting their school years earlier and implementing a year-round schedule. This new calendar includes early Friday dismissals, a two-week break in late September, and extended spring break. The aim is to address community requests for a modified school schedule while keeping the total number of school days the same as the traditional calendar. Both schools will conclude the year at the usual time, followed by a six-week summer break.
