Brevard County deputies have arrested several illegal aliens who were caught illegally picking berries. They had a truck loaded with over 9,000 pounds of stolen palmetto berries. Sheriff Wayne Ivey expressed frustration with the deportation process, noting that some suspects had previously been deported but returned to commit more crimes. The sheriff criticized the immigration system for its weak focus on violent offenders, and for the fact that non-violent offenders are often not deported. All suspects involved were jailed on a $2,500 bond.
