The National Hurricane Center is now monitoring five areas of interest as hurricane season presses forward, but so far with little impact to the US. In the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, a trough of low pressure is generating widespread showers, but development is unlikely with a 10% formation chance over the next 48 hours. A tropical wave in the western Caribbean could see some development as it moves over the Gulf of Mexico, but it only has a 20% chance of development in the next week. Also, a low-pressure system off North Carolina has a 30% chance of becoming subtropical in the coming days. The other systems, including waves in the Central Atlantic, currently have a zero percent chance of development. None of them present any threat right now to us here in Florida, but we will see some more rain over the next few days.
