Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Slated For Some Work

Brevard County officials have approved $775,000 in funding to enhance the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse, a historic site dating back to 1868. The decision aims to improve visitor facilities and add two light-keeper cottages, with hopes of boosting tourism. However, some commissioners expressed concerns over the cost-effectiveness of the investment. Board Chair Jason Steele however, shifted his vote in favor after hearing community support, stating that recent events at the lighthouse justified the upgrades. Funding will come from tourism taxes on hotel rooms and vacation rentals, with groundbreaking expected in the coming months.
