Florida Wildlife Hospital Cancels 11th Annual Hoot In The Park

The Florida Wildlife Hospital has canceled its 11th annual “Hoot in the Park” fundraiser at Wickham Park due to increased costs and a record influx of injured animals. Scheduled for November 23, the event turned out to be simply too expensive this year for the nonprofit, which reported treating 5,312 animals through August—nearly 1,000 more than last year. They say while the event served as a valuable “friend raiser,” rising costs made it impractical as a fundraiser. This year alone, over 595 animals have been admitted after being hit by vehicles, including 115 threatened gopher tortoises. Donations to support the hospital’s efforts meanwhile, can still be made at www.floridawildlifehospital.org.
