Invest 97-L Could Be Major Hurricane In Gulf By Late This Week

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Invest 97-L, a tropical disturbance in the northwestern Caribbean that now has increased chances of formation into a tropical depression this week. Currently, the system is generating disorganized thunderstorms and is expected to move northward across the Gulf of Mexico. Formation chances have risen to 50% over the next two days and 80% over the next week. Areas from Louisiana to Florida have now been advised keep a close watch, as potential watches and warnings may be issued for parts of Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula as early as today. Another tropical wave is expected to move westward from Africa, with a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression next week.
