This weekend marks one year since Brightline began its service to Orlando, offering Central Floridians an alternative travel option to South Florida. However, today’s anniversary coincides with a troubling safety record. From September 2023 to June 2024, 34 fatalities were reported along the Brightline route, with 12 occurring here in Brevard County, where the train does not stop. Brightline has since implemented upgrades at crossings and launched a safety campaign. Since its opening, the Orlando station has seen over 2.6 million rides.
