The Brevard County Commission has approved a funding plan for lifeguard services for the upcoming fiscal year. During a meeting on Tuesday, commissioners decided that cities will maintain their traditional contributions, avoiding a budget proposal that could have increased costs for Cocoa Beach by up to tenfold. Cocoa Beach Mayor Keith Capizzi expressed relief at the decision, saying his city could not absorb such a steep increase. The county’s new plan ensures that lifeguard services will remain unchanged for the next year, prioritizing public safety while alleviating financial pressure on local municipalities.
