Cocoa Beach Controversy Over Hotel Plans

A new $400 million hotel in Cocoa Beach… The Westin, built on the site of the old International Palms… is facing backlash over plans to rent a public park for up to 100 days a year. Residents, including former mayor Janice Scott, argue that public spaces shouldn’t be privatized for the hotel’s use. The park rental proposal would give the hotel exclusive access to part of Lori Wilson Park. Developers say they’ll maintain and improve the park, but concerns remain, especially over the future of the dog park. The issue will be discussed at a Brevard County Commission meeting today.
