Downtown Melbourne Considering Paid Parking Plan

The City of Melbourne is considering a proposal to introduce paid parking in parts of downtown. Currently, parking is free, but it has become a persistent issue, with local store owners and employees being accused of often occupying spaces meant for visitors. The proposed Downtown Melbourne Parking Management Program would combine paid, enforced, and managed parking, leaving some areas still free. Other recent changes in the downtown area include removing benches to discourage loitering and installing new security cameras.
