Controversial Hotel/Public Park Plan In Cocoa Beach Tabled

Brevard County officials have decided to table a controversial proposal that would grant a new hotel exclusive use of parts of Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach for private events. The Westin sought to rent the beachfront park for up to 100 days a year in exchange for building a new dog park on the property. Residents voiced strong objections, arguing against privatizing public spaces. While the proposal isn’t completely off the table, significant changes are now needed for it to be acceptable. The commission has now directed the developer to hold public meetings to address community concerns before resubmitting a revised plan.
