In response to what many view as a growing environmental crisis, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is ramping up efforts to remove hundreds of battered boats that have washed ashore from recent hurricanes. FWC is deploying additional officers to tackle safety concerns. The derelict vessels pose hazards along the Space Coast. Some experts view it as a “environmental disaster” because of the risks of pollution from the stranded boats. Boat owners now have 45 days to relocate their vessels or surrender them to the state.
