Brevard County voters have narrowly rejected a proposal to give county commissioners a 70% pay raise. The measure, which would have increased their salary from $60,272 to $102,509, lost by just 2.7%, with 51.36% voting against it. In contrast, a separate referendum to extend the county’s economic development tax-abatement program for new and expanding businesses was overwhelmingly approved, passing with 71.72% of the vote. The program, which offers tax incentives to businesses, will continue for another 10 years, following similar approvals in past decades.
