Satellite Beach is ending its controversial vehicle booting program following more than a year of community backlash. The city council has now decided to replace booting with ticketing for unpaid beach parking. The move comes after complaints about drivers struggling to remove boots and unexpected charges, with some even facing fees despite having permits due to employee errors. The city’s decision to adopt paid parking in 2023 was intended to support beach maintenance without burdening taxpayers. The new rules are set to be finalized at upcoming council meetings. Meanwhile, the booting will cease on January 1.
