Melbourne is calling for help in addressing its rising homeless population. At the city council meeting, Mayor Paul Alfrey criticized other Brevard County cities for not contributing to the efforts. While Melbourne has been providing services, including funding for Daily Bread’s soup kitchen, more housing options are needed. A long-term plan includes the development of Providence Place, a 100-room facility for the homeless, set to break ground this fall and open in 2027. The city is also planning a workshop to discuss further solutions.
