Florida lawmakers have taken a major step toward cracking down on squatting with the approval of a bill which expands last year’s law on squatting. It allows property owners to remove squatters from both residential and commercial properties through nonjudicial means. Law enforcement can now act faster, but owners must pay fees for sheriff involvement. The bill passed the Senate with a unanimous vote and heads to the House for consideration. If approved, the law will take effect on July 1.
