Volunteers recently removed 300 tires from the Indian River Lagoon near Cocoa Beach, addressing a decades-old erosion control method that’s now believed to be harming the lagoon. Once used for erosion control, tire debris is now recognized as a serious environmental hazard. The removal is part of ongoing efforts to clean the lagoon and restore its natural balance.
