Surfer hospitalized after shark bite at New Smyrna BeachA 40 year old Winter Park man was hospitalized Sunday after being bitten by a shark while surfing at New Smyrna Beach. Volusia County Beach Safety reported the attack happened around 3 p.m. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries. New Smyrna Beach is known as the “Shark Bite Capital of the World,” with over 300 shark attacks recorded since the 1880s. A 2023 report showed Volusia County accounted for half of Florida’s shark bites that year.
