Another Invasive Species Calling Brevard Home

Peters’s rock agama, a colorful invasive lizard, is rapidly spreading across Florida, with a surge in sightings, especially in Brevard County. Native to East Africa, the species was introduced through the pet trade in the 1970s. Males are particularly noticeable during breeding season with their orange heads and blue bodies. While experts believe they pose minimal environmental harm, they may negatively affect local butterflies. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is asking residents to report sightings.
