Cocoa Man Killed in Possible Stand Your Ground Case

21 year old Jyuri Smith, previously acquitted of murder on self-defense grounds, was shot and killed a week ago in a Cocoa apartment parking lot. Police say Smith approached a man with a rifle during a dispute, and preliminary findings suggest the shooting may be justifiable under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. The shooter, a 22 year old, is cooperating with investigators. Smith’s death marks the 17th homicide in Brevard County this year.
