The FAA has approved SpaceX’s environmental plan to fly its massive Starship rocket from Kennedy Space Center, clearing a major regulatory hurdle despite concerns over noise, sonic booms, and airspace disruptions. The plan allows up to 44 launches a year from Launch Complex 39-A, with about half scheduled overnight, along with as many as 88 landings annually. Federal officials say launches could trigger temporary airspace closures lasting up to two hours and create noise levels high enough to disturb nearby communities, while sonic booms could be felt across parts of Brevard County. The FAA says it will coordinate closely with SpaceX to manage flight paths and minimize impacts as operations move forward.
