Florida’s Attorney General and Brevard County’s Sheriff Warn Protesters As State Enforces Anti-riot Law

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey held a press conference Thursday, warning protesters that Florida’s 2021 anti-riot law will be strictly enforced. Uthmeier said violent protests will not be tolerated, stressing, “If you throw things, light things on fire, wreak havoc and destruction in Florida, you will do time.” Sheriff Ivey added that while peaceful protests are allowed, anyone using violence or blocking roads will face jail time, and violent offenders risk severe and possibly lethal consequences.
