A 45 year old Melbourne man will spend decades behind bars after pleading no contest in a deadly 2020 shooting. Latavious Shant Johnson admitted to second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the killing of Jamie Wright and the shooting of her husband, Theron Wright, outside a South Melbourne restaurant and inside a neighboring business. Prosecutors say the attack was over a debt, and Johnson was identified after an armed employee shot him during the struggle. Johnson was sentenced to 45 years in state prison and must serve at least 25 years before becoming eligible for any sentence reduction.
